From Cricut to Cherry Bomb Creations: How Our Badge Topper Story Began

America Cherries interchangeable badge topper by Cherry Bomb Creations

Cherry Bomb Creations did not begin with a polished online store, a large product catalog, or a professional production studio. It started in 2021 with a Cricut machine, a spare room, and a husband-and-wife team willing to learn as they went.

Today, Cherry Bomb Creations is known for interchangeable badge toppers that help healthcare workers, educators, office professionals, and other everyday hustlers add personality to a uniform or work ID. The path from vinyl T-shirts to a growing badge topper collection was not a straight line—but every step helped shape the products we make now.

Two backgrounds came together

Cherry Bomb Creations is run by Terri and Blake. Terri spent 12 years as a dental assistant and another three years as a Medical Support Assistant. Blake is a retired Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician.

Those backgrounds became part of the business from the beginning. Terri understood what it felt like to work in environments where uniforms and dress codes left little room for self-expression. Blake brought his military background into the identity of the brand. Even the name combines their two worlds: the “bomb” reflects Blake’s EOD experience, while the cherries come from Terri’s love of cherry-themed everything.

It started with a Cricut and vinyl shirts

Like many handmade businesses, the first projects were experiments. Cherry Bomb Creations began with vinyl T-shirts made on a Cricut. That early stage was important because it taught us how much detail goes into turning a design idea into a finished item someone will actually enjoy using.

Eventually, the focus shifted toward badge toppers. The first versions were made with layers of vinyl and two-part resin. They took a long time to assemble and even longer to cure. The process was slow, but it revealed something important: a small work accessory could make a uniform feel more personal.

Coworkers helped turn an idea into a business

Terri began wearing the badge toppers she made, and coworkers started asking where they came from and whether they could buy one. Those questions were the turning point.

Badge toppers solve a simple problem. A uniform may need to stay the same, but the accessory attached to an ID does not have to be boring. A design can show career pride, celebrate a season, match a holiday, share a little humor, or simply make a difficult shift feel brighter.

That is why our catalog now includes designs across several interests and work settings. Shoppers can browse occupational designs, explore humor and personality toppers, or switch things up with the holidays and seasons collection.

Why interchangeable became the goal

A permanent badge reel usually means changing the entire reel when you want a different look. That can be inconvenient when the reel is already holding an ID badge, reference cards, keys, or other work essentials.

Our interchangeable system lets customers keep compatible hardware in place and change the decorative topper. Heavy-duty dual-lock technology helps the topper snap firmly into position while still allowing it to be swapped for another compatible design.

For someone who likes to coordinate with the season, rotate between funny and professional styles, or collect designs that match different moods, that flexibility matters. The hardware collection includes the compatible reel and lanyard options currently available in the store.

How the process has changed

The early vinyl-and-resin method helped launch the idea, but the current process is built around precision and consistency. Each topper is designed, cut, and finished by hand using USA-made acrylic selected for demanding workdays.

Handmade does not mean random. It means real people are involved in the design choices, production steps, finishing, and quality checks. It also means the catalog can keep growing with occupational themes, seasonal releases, custom shapes, and designs with a little attitude.

What has not changed

The tools and materials have evolved, but the purpose is still the same: create a small, practical way for people to express themselves at work.

Cherry Bomb Creations began because coworkers connected with something Terri was already wearing. That same idea continues every time a customer finds a topper that feels like it was made for their personality, profession, favorite season, or sense of humor.
